Aim
The purpose of the Diploma in Exercise & Health Fitness Programme of Study is to provide a pathway for those health & fitness professionals who wish to progress onwards from Leaving Certifiacte level to Diploma level by accumulating credits in programmes that provide further specialization in specific areas within the industry (e.g. Personal Training) and thatalso offer an opportunity to become an Exercise & Health Fitness Tutor. While these specialisation's & tutor education opportunities existed within the formerNCEF system, and had been comprehensively developed and improved over twenty years, an academic structure that provides a pathway to a university diploma is a natural progression from the certificate programme.
The overall diploma programme operates by providing a structure through which the qualification can be obtained on a stage by stage basis thus supporting the principle of lifelong learning.
At the time of writing the process of placing all University of Limerick awards within the various levels on the National Framework of Qualifications is underway. The Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (CEHF) will be accorded Level 6 status and the Diploma in Exercise & Health Fitness (DEHF) will be accorded Level 7 status.
