IMPORTANT NOTICE TO NCEF/PEAI LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE HOLDERS 1987- 2006
Graduates of the NCEF Level 1 from 1987-2006 were awarded the National Certificate in Exercise & Fitness Level 1 by the Physical Education Association of Ireland. All recipients of that award within those years have been required to recertify their qualification every five years by accumulating Continuing Education Credits (CEC’s).
The NCEF became an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick in June 2006. All NCEF programmes of study are now part of Certificate and Diploma programmes in Exercise & Health Fitness of the University of Limerick. These awards do not require recertification. As a result of this development, NCEF Level 1 holders 1987 - 2006, from September 28 2007 now have three options open to them.
Option 1:to recertify as an NCEF Level 1 Holder in the usual manner. By submitting the following:
NCEF Passport with 1000 Continuing Education Credits. (CEC’s) A replacement passport can be purchased for €7.00 (incl. P&P)Occupational First Aid (OFA) certificate. (150 CEC’s awarded-must be Occupational, First Aid- Basic Fist Aid will not suffice.) Contact Irish Red Cross, Order of Malta or Denise Kelly on 086-8474444 for details on upcoming OFA courses in your area.forward your original certificate to NCEF Head Office for updating.fee €55.00 (this fee is waived to current NNR members. NNR members receive 200 CEC’s annually).
of earning CEC's:
National Register 200 CEC’s (annual registration fee of €45. Commences 1 Nov annually. Membership can be backdated if within the current year)
Personal Training 1000 CEC’s (commences in & Limerick Feb ’09)
Team Sports Fitness 1000 CEC’s (commences Santry, D9 in October ’08)
NFN Crossoword 50 CEC’s
Convention 400 CEC’s (October 2009)
NCEF Programmes which are exercise and health fitness related may also be eligible for CEC’s (e.g. Basic First Aid) Please contact me directly for clarification regarding qualification which you may have obtained since graduating.
NCEF Level 1/PEAI holders can continue to recertify in this manner until 2012 which will validate their Level 1 qualification until 2017. The PEAI have agreed that if there is till a demand for recertification then the process may continue.
Option 2:Apply for recognition of your original award towards the Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (UL awarded) through the NCEF / UL Recognition of Prior Learning Scheme (RPL). recognition is on an individual basis, using specific criteria laid down by the RPL Assessment Board. Applicants may be required to complete further study/ assignments in order to attain the UL award of Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness. (Fees apply)of applications for recognition of the NCEF/PEAI L1 Certificates to the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) Assessment Board commenced in January 2008. The RPL Assessment Board defines and oversees the implementation of the scheme. (A minimum RPL fee of €725 will apply)
Option 3:If you do not wish to apply for recognition of your NCEF/PEAI L1 Certificates toward the UL awarded Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness and you wish to continue your education within the area of exercise and health fitness, then we recommend that through the recognition of prior learning you apply for entry onto any Specialist Module within Stage 2 within the Diploma in Exercise & Health Fitness pathway. E.g. Personal Training
accumulating 60 ECTS credits within Stage 2 you are eligible for entry onto the final stage of the diploma pathway, which is Tutor Education. Once this is successfully completed you are then awarded the UL awarded Diploma in Exercise and Health fitness. This is an award fro life that does not require recertification.
